Mr Abdullahi Candido, Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) says the council will collaborate with stakeholders to connect the rural poor to digital financial and government services, markets and information.
He said this at the 36th anniversary celebration of the council on Thursday in Abuja.
The theme for the celebration is ‘AMAC @36: Growing in a digital world’.
Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) was created on Oct. 1, 1984 and has twelve districts, which includes City centre, Wuse, Gwarimpa, Garki, Kabusa, Jiwa, Gwagwa, Gui, Karshi, Karu, Nyanya and Orozo.
He said that as the world was thriving on digital economy, it was important to deploy the use of ICT to encourage citizens’ participation.
“The world is thriving on digital economy and we as growing council must flow with the trend.
“We are proud to say the council has become the centre of ICT drive, providing efficiency in terms of service delivery, productivity and convenience.
“We run various social media pages like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp that provide responses to citizens’ request 24/7 and impromptu feedback channels to issues related to our service delivery.
“This innovative step has made the council open to the public thereby promoting transparency and accountability,” he said.
The chairman added that in building the capacity of his people to grow in the present digital world, the council had initiated a school for the gifted and ICT innovation centre.
“The innovation centre located at Orozo is meant to train the youths in ICT so they can be abreast of the modern technology and be relevant in the new culture,” he said.

Highlight of the event was the performance of cultural display by various cultural groups in the council.
