Former champions Nasarawa Amazons will take on Lagos side FC Robo Queens on the opening day of the 2020/21 Nigerian Women’s Football League season on December 9.

The NWFL released the fixtures for the new season through a computer-generated system on Wednesday, after confirming the new date for the resumption of the women’s league.

In other opening fixtures, Confluence Queens battle Ibom Angels, Dreams Stars welcome Delta Queens, while Bayelsa Queens and Pelican Stars clash at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

Edo Queens are home to Royal Queens, Abia Angels take on Osun Babes and Sunshine Queens host Heartland Queens in the final opening day games.

The NWFL resumption date was announced following the approval of contact sports by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

NWFL chairperson, Aisha Falode, said the participating clubs were expected to meet the requirements before the league’s resumption.

“Before the commencement of the NWFL Premiership, clubs are expected to meet all guidelines in terms of the COVID-19 protocols, players licensing, DTMS, medicals and insurance,” Falode stated.

“Documentation for the season has been sent and deadlines for meeting up with these obligations and conditions will also be known soon. Any club that fails to meet these conditions will be sanctioned.

“Commencement of inspection of facilities submitted by the teams will be inspected as part of the activities to be embarked on by @TheNWFL, if teams don’t have acceptable pitches, they will be advised to get good ones, if not a decision will be taken swiftly,” Falode added.

The Nigeria Football Federation at its Executive Committee meeting via a video conference on October 20, approved the resumption of the Nigeria Professional Football League anytime from November 15.

The NFF also mandated all other leagues including the women’s to “synchronise their calendars with that of the NPFL, with each of them commencing within three weeks of the elite League.”
