Flights grounded at Akure airport

Flights were grounded in Akure Airport, Ondo State, on Monday as a crater was dug on the runway at the airport.

It was gathered the crater was allegedly dug on the runway by some unknown persons.

The development was said to have forced the management of the airport to close the runway preventing flights from taking off or landing in the airport.

To this end, many travellers who wanted to travel by air through the Akure Airport were unable to do so.

A source in the airport revealed that the officials discovered the crater on Sunday night and consequently closed the runway.

The spokesperson of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Henrietta Yakubu, stated that there were cracks discovered on the runway during the routine checks on Monday.

Henrietta, however, declared that repair works had commenced on the cracked portions on the runway.
