Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, has commended the people of Offa for identifying with his administration, through self help projects and community collaboration in the task of building the state together.
Governor AbdulRazaq made the commendation at Offa, Offa Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, during the foundation-laying ceremony of the multi-million naira ultra-modern Accident and Emergency Unit at the General Hospital, Offa.
The project, at the instance of Offa Metropolitan Club, is designed to assist the Community and Offa General Hospital to address critically ill-patients and referral cases.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Raji Razaq, said Offa community is impacting positively on its people through various developmental efforts embarked upon by groups and individuals in the town.
“It is expedient to say a big thank you for identifying a gap and committing yourself to fixing the gap rather than embarking on a fruitless criticism that will further worsen the situation,” AbdulRazaq said.
He listed an array of gaps and interventions like building of an eye centre, renovation of staff quarters and annual free medical and surgical outreaches, which had previously been undertaken by groups and individuals from within the Community at the General Hospital, Offa.
The Governor said the Offa Metropolitan Club has taken “the right step in the right direction and this will indeed go a long way in saving lives and improving healthcare outcomes, especially for patients who require emergency care in the hospital”.
Earlier, the Oloffa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II, who laid the foundation stone for the multi-million naira accident and emergency unit, appreciated the State Governor and the Offa Metropolitan Club for providing succour to the people through the project, noting that it will benefit the people of Offa and Kwara in general.
Oba Gbadamosi said the community will remain grateful to the club, pointing out that its footprints shall never be erased in Offa and the State at large.
Also speaking, the President of Offa Metropolitan Club, Dr. (Mrs.) Sarah Alade, appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for approving the club’s proposal to collaborate with the state government for the construction of the accident and emergency unit at the Offa General Hospital.
When completed, the multi-million naira accident and emergency unit is expected to comprise an Emergency Resuscitation Area, a Triage bay, CT/x-ray room, Consulting room with planned internal fixtures to support accessibility and qualitative care, among others, according to Arc. Taofiq Popoola.
