Gunmen kill Ogun Poly lecturer

Gunmen yesterday shot and killed a lecturer of the D. S Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, Mufutau Olayemi Waliu.
Waliu was reportedly ambushed and shot severally by the assassins while he was on his way out of the institution’s campus on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old lecturer was until his death the Head of Electrical and Electronics Department of the institution.
He was rushed to the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, where was confirmed dead.
The Head of the Public Relations at the institution, Yinka Adegbite confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday said the police had taken over the investigation.
Adegbite said the remains of the deceased was about to be buried as of the time of this report.
He said “He closed from work yesterday as he was coming out from the campus, the report we heard was that he was ambushed by some gunmen.
“They shot him several times. When we heard we reported to the police.
“The instruction’s management with the cooperation of the police immediately took him to the State Hospital, Ijaye. On getting there, he was pronounced dead.
“Of course we are yet to ascertain what happened. We have left the police to do their job. They will do their investigation normally and they will come out with their findings later.”
When contacted, the Spokesman of the Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi described it as a case of assassination.
He said the Command had begun hunting of the killers with a view bringing them to the book.
Oyeyemi said, “it is a case of assassination. They did not touch anything in his vehicle. It is like he was traced to Itori.
“The Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun has ordered investigation by Homicide section.
“We are working assiduously to ensure that the killers are brought to book.”
