India’s Sawan Barwal won silver.
China’s Feng Peiyou took bronze.
Yamashita stayed with the leading group before making his decisive move during the final stages.
His victory gave Japan its seventh men’s marathon title at the Asian Games.
The women’s marathon was won by Bahrain’s Shitaye Eshete.
