London was thrown into chaos on Thursday morning as 150 people were evacuated from Guy’s Hospital in Southwark following reports of a chemical incident.
According to the London Fire Brigade (LFB), firefighters were called at 8:49 a.m. (0749 GMT) to respond to the emergency. Specialist hazardous materials officers, along with two fire engines, two fire rescue units, and a command unit, were deployed to the scene.
Crews immediately began ventilating the building, removing staff and patients from the hospital’s basement and ground floor to ensure safety.
Guy’s Hospital, a leading elective centre with over 400 beds, is well-known for its specialised services in cancer care, kidney treatment, urology, dental, ENT, and orthopaedics.
While officials have not confirmed the source or nature of the chemical incident, the evacuation has raised serious concerns about safety protocols in one of the UK’s busiest medical hubs.
Authorities say investigations are underway, and no casualties have yet been reported. The incident, however, has sparked public fears about hospital safety and preparedness for chemical hazards in central London.
