Indigenes of Makun in Sagamu Local government area of Ogun State are in celebration mood to mark the 25th annual Makun Obaruwa Festival.
The festival is a veritable platform to showcase the rich tradition, culture and heritage of the people of Makun.
The theme of this year’s festival is: “Promoting Our Cultural Heritage For Secured Future”.
The week-long festival kicked off with a Marathon race and cycling event on Sunday, February 5, with hundreds of youths of Makun participating in the event.
Addressing journalists on activities lined up to mark the festival, the spokesman of the festival planning committee, Otunba Howells, said, the festival which kicked off on Sunday, February 5 would end with a grand finale on Saturday, February 11.
According to him, Governor Dapo Abiodun is expected to lead other prominent sons and daughters of Makun and Ogun State at the event.
He added that, captain of industries, traditional rulers and public office holders, among others are also expected to grace the event.
Howells outlined some of the activities of the festival to include: a quiz and debate competition for students of secondary schools, a public lecture, a royal dinner/award night, a medical outreach and Mr. and Miss Obaruwa beauty pageant.
He disclosed that, indigenes of the two would also be using the opportunity of the festival to honour Makun heroes who lost their lives fighting for Makun cause.
In his remarks, the Director of Media and Publicity, Obaruwa Festival 2023, Comrade Kayode Segun-Okeowo thanked the youths of the town for their commitment towards the success of the festival and other community development agenda.
