NAICOM warns insurance companies against issuance of wrong information to policyholders

Date:

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has warned insurance companies against issuing wrong contact addresses and telephone numbers to policyholders when buying into insurance.

The Deputy Commissioner, Technical of NAICOM, Alhaji Sabiu Abubakar, gave the warning while fielding questions at a seminar for insurance journalists in Uyo on Saturday.

Abubakar was reacting to complaints that some insurance companies usually issue wrong contact addresses and telephone numbers on their policy contract documents which insurance holders would not locate.

He frowned at the development, saying that the commission would sanction any company found to have done that on purpose.

According to him, if an insurance company changes its location and address, it should inform the insurance holders of their new location and numbers.

“We will not tolerate any issue like this from any insurance company.

“If an insurance company changes its address or phone number from the one we have in the commission, it should quickly contact us and the policyholders (the insured).

“There will be sanctions for any insurance company who fails to do this,’’ he said.

Abubakar, who said the commission was working tirelessly to reduce incidences of fake insurance, appealed to the people to always buy insurance from registered insurance companies.
