Date:

Maria Olodi-Osunma, Chairperson of Bayelsa chapter of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), on Saturday expressed the hope that the newly-introduced monthly jogging and fitness programme would serve its purpose.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the programme, being organised by the Bayelsa Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), got underway in Yenagoa on Saturday.

Journalists and friends of the NUJ in the state had converged on the Peace Park at Onopa,  opposite Bayelsa Government House in Yenagoa at 7 a.m. for the take-off of the event.

They then passed through the Melford Okilo Road, before ending the exercise at the NUJ Press Centre along Azikoro Road.

“I hope that more members will take advantage of the exercise to keep fit subsequently,” Olodi-Osunma said, while speaking to newsmen after the event,

Speaking also, Samuel Numonengi, Chairman of the Bayelsa council of NUJ, assured that the programme would be held every first Saturday of the month.

”It is a programme geared towards keeping journalists fit mentally and physically,” he said.

The Chairman of Bayeslsa NUJ Sports Committee, Datonye Alambo, on his part said the challenges experienced in the maiden edition of the programme would be reviewed and tackled.

“Measures will be put in place to improve upon the exercise,” he said.

NAN reports that guests who participated in the exercise included the Director-General on New Media to the Bayelsa Government, Kola Oredipe.
