Nigeria @60: AMAC Councillor empowers petty traders with cash gifts

Date:

Mr Mathias Aliu, Councillor representing Wuse ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), on Thursday empowered 15 petty traders with cash gifts of N10,000 each.

Presenting the gifts at the council’s secretariat, Aliu, said the reason for the donation is to celebrate the country’s 60th Independence and the area council’s 36th anniversary.

“I decided to celebrate this day with my people so that they will know that I hold them in high esteem.

“That is why I am empowering the small-scale business owners, like the tea and bread sellers, fruit sellers, small kiosks owners and so on with N10,000 each.

“I also want my people in Wuse ward to know that we will continue to serve them better,” he said.

The councilor, urged the recipients to use the money wisely.

Mr Andrew Ugwu, Senior Special Adviser to the Chairman on Tenement rate, commended the councillor for the gesture.

“This is the first time we will be receiving this type of gesture in Wuse ward.

“This will also make the people know that politics is good when we elect the right people and those who have the love of the people at heart,” he said.

Mrs Aisha Saidu, a beneficiary, appreciated the councillor for the kind gesture and advised other recipients to use the money to boost their businesses.

Another beneficiary, Mr Rabiu Rabi, a tea seller, also appreciated the councillor and promised to make good use of the gift.
