A community leader in Abeokuta, Toyin Amuzu, has urged the Federal Government to invest more in production of goods and services, especially agricultural products, in order to enhance food sufficiency in the country.
Amuzu, who is the Okanlomo of Ijeun land in Abeokuta, stated this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday on the occasion of Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary.
He also called on government to support small and medium scale enterprises, saying that no nation could survive without production and self-reliance.
The community leader urged government to continue to encourage and support indigenous industries, adding that this would ensure job opportunities for the teeming youth and thus reduce poverty.
Amuzu expressed optimism that Nigeria would be better and great if everyone worked together in unity and with patriotic zeal to move the nation forward.
He urged Nigerians to see the 60th independent anniversary as a period for sober reflection on how far the country had fared.
The community leader appealed to government to continue to improve on the economy, security, education, politics, health and social welfare.
