The Ghana Chapter of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), says Nigerians have cause to celebrate after attaining 60 years of independence.

Mr Kingsley Attoe, President of NIDO-Ghana, said this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday.

“let’s tell positive stories about positive things in our fatherland, in celebrating [email protected],” Attoe said.

According to him, after 60-years of living together as one entity, Nigerians have cause to celebrate.

“Not just for our status as largest black nation in the world, but as one of the most dynamic and innovative people.

“Home and abroad, Nigerians have a story to tell; a story of positive impact, story of transformation from science to the arts, not forgetting religion.

“Nigerians have been at the fore front of innovation from the the third world countries, to first world countrie with imprints everywhere, to Nigerians we say Ayekoo.

“Let us forge a united front as a nation, because in spite of our positive impact globally, international news derived pleasure in projecting negative news about Nigerians and drown our greatness.

“It is time to intentionally promote our country with statement and act, to mention the name and identity whenever we attain new feats and promote the greatness associated with Nigeria,” Attoe said.

He said Nigeria has a population of over 200 million people,”it is wrong to term Nigerians criminals, when one or two persons commit crime.”

He observed that when a Nigeria student win academic laurels or a professional was honoured such hardly made news headlines, but Nigerians were often called unreliable heartbreakers whenever there were breakups with ladies.

“For every Nigerian, who has committed crime, there are hundreds who impacted positively on lives in several positive ways, but never recognised.

“As we begin journey into the next 60years, it is important that our story changes and this story can only change, if we are intentional with our act,” he said.

He described the media as noble profession, while urging media practitioner home and abroad to always give balanced report on Nigeria moving forward.

He urged Nigerians to support government efforts aimed at promoting good governance, through demand for accountability as Nigerian citizens.

Attoe quoted the President of Ghana, Nana Addo, during his official inauguration as saying, “let us be citizens and not spectators. ”

On youth development, he urged young people to be more patriotic about Nigeria, noting that the failure of every government is the failure of the youth.

“You do not relinquish your power after election, you can still contribute to national discuss and show more interest in governance.

“After passing the Not Too Young to Run Bill, what next? The bill on it’s own will not get the youth to power, we need to be intentional with our acts, even in governance,” he said.

He decried the negative impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy and urged Nigerians to explore technology to transform their businesses and interaction.

On Nigeria and Ghana trade war, he urged Ghananians to be more accommodative to Nigerians, in spite of their differences in mannersim.

“We welcome Ghananians in Nigeria and do not disrespect them; we respect you in our great competitive country, Nigeria, it is impossible to come to Ghana and disrespect you in your own soil.

“We see Ghana as home, based on good stories learned from our parents from one generation to another; we pray the new generation will not soil brotherliness between both countries,” he said.

He, however, urged Nigerians in Ghana to build on the good image of their fatherland, while encouraging them to reinvest back home.
