Asaba, Oct. 15, 2026 (NAN) Senator Ovie Omo-Agege,  Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) 2027 Delta Central Senatorial Candidate  says the petition challenging his candidacy is frivolous and worthless.
Omo-Agege, a former deputy senate president, said this in a statement  by his Media Adviser, Mr Sunny Areh on Thursday in Asaba.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  reports that the statement is a reaction to an open letter by the camp of Sen. Ede Dafinone of the APC, who represents Delta Central in the Senate, to the INEC Chairman.
The letter reportedly sought clarification on Omo-Agege’s membership of the NDC,  and his inclusion on INEC’s final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Omo-Agege said he had resigned from the APC in compliance with applicable laws and party rules, adding that the circumstances of his resignation were well documented.
He said his membership of the NDC and the party’s submission of his name to INEC were valid and verifiable.
According to him, the NDC took appropriate steps to safeguard the nomination of its candidates, including granting waivers to some candidates as an internal measure.
Omo-Agege said the Supreme Court judgment of Sept. 24, which restored some provisions of the Electoral Act, did not disqualify him from contesting the election.
He said his candidacy remained valid, having complied with the Constitution and the Electoral Act, including provisions restored by the Supreme Court judgment.
“Today, the reality is that INEC, after due diligence and verification of all submissions by parties and candidates, has published its final lists of candidates for the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Omo-Agege said his name was on the National Assembly list as the NDC candidate for Delta central senatorial district.
He described the petition as another attempt by Dafinone’s camp to challenge his candidacy ahead of the election.
Omo-Agege urged Dafinone to prepare for the election and allow the candidates’ records of service to determine the outcome at the polls.
He said the Urhobo people would determine through their votes,  which candidate had served them better.
Omo-Agege said he remained focused on his campaign and would not be distracted by what he described as attacks against his candidacy.
The former deputy senate president said he is committed to his mission of “rescuing Delta central” through the 2027 senatorial election.
