Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a lecturer with Covenant University, Ota, Dr. Stephen Ukenna for allegedly raping a 17-year-old student of the institution.
Ukenna, a lecturer in the Department of Business management in the institution allegedly lured the victim (names withheld) into his office on the school campus where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
The Command’s Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement on Tuesday disclosed that, the 41-year-old lecturer was arrested on Thursday, March 11 in the school premises.
Oyeyemi said, the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Ota area command by the parents of the victim.
The Command’s Spokesman said, the victim’s parents told the police that, their daughter called them on phone from the school that she was invited by the lecturer to his office under the pretence that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her close friend.
“But on getting to the lecture’s office, he locked the office door and forcefully had sex with her on top of the table in his office”.
Following the report, the Area Commander of Ota division, ACP Muyideen Obe deployed his JWC team to the school where the lecturer was arrested.
The PPRO said, the suspect admitted that he forcefully had carnal knowledge of the victim, but was unable to give any reason for his action.
Oyeyemi added that, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
