The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Pauline Tallen, has lauded the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Plateau for selecting a female candidate for the Senatorial polls for Plateau Southern Zone scheduled for Oct. 31.

The News Agency of Nigeria , reports that the Senator representing the Plateau Southern Zone, Ignatius Lonjan, had died on Feb. 10, after an illness.

Tallen thanked the party at an APC stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday in Jos for giving a woman, Prof. Dora Daduut, the platform to contest for the forthcoming senatorial by-election.

“We have resolved to come together as a a party to support her and I am particularly proud and happy because she is a woman and we have been yearning for the representation of women.

“I thank the governor and the party leaders for giving us this worthy candidate; we are all behind her and will ensure she scales through,” she said.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the stakeholders’ meeting, Plateau Gov. Simon Lalong said the meeting was a reaffirmation of the strength and unity of the Party in Plateau.

He said that the meeting with all critical stakeholders of the party from Plateau,

inspite of COVID-19, was a demonstration of their resolve to deliver the candidate in the forthcoming polls.

“We want to put our unity and solidify our support for the senatorial candidate for the polls. By the grace of God victory is sure,” he said.

He said the aspirants who contested with the candidate during the primaries were present at the meeting, saying it was a demonstration of party loyalty and their cooperation for APC’s victory in the state.

“All of them are here, after the primaries there were no petitions.

“All of them agreed to support the candidate and they are in the campaign council, one of them who is chairing the campaign was also an aspirant,” he said.

NAN reports that APC conducted primaries to select a candidate for the Plateau Southern Zone earlier in September, for the October polls, from which Prof. Daduut emerged.
