Student group condemns Nwajiuba for saying FG can’t secure all schools

The Progressive Students Movement (PSM) has expressed disappointment over the statement credited to the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba that the Federal government cannot secure the lives of students in all schools in the country.

Nwajiuba had stated this an interview with The PUNCH on Monday.

The PSM President, Comrade Okereafor Bestman Opeyemi described the statement as callous and unexpected of a responsible government.

The Students President said “The primary responsibility of any government is to protect lives and properties of citizens, for a serving minister to say such an unguarded statement is a simple acceptance of failure! we thereby urge FG to set up a special military formation to tackle the consistent issues of Kidnapping and banditry in the Ogun West senatorial district of Ogun State.”

He therefore call on President Muhammadu Buhari to rise above religious and ethic sentiments and do the needful by declaring Marauding Herdsmen as terrorists and be treated and such! We call on the executive Governor of Ogun State Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun to as a matter of utmost priority secure the release of the kidnapped students unhurt.

The student body also gave the Ogun State Government a 78-hour ultimatum to ensure the safe return of the abducted two female students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ayetoro Campus students who were kidnapped on Sunday night.

The students body also warned that if government failed to do that, there would be massive coalition protest in the state capital.

Recall that the female students of the higher institution were, on Sunday night kidnapped at its Ayetoro campus in Yewa-North Local Government Area.

The victims, identified as Adeyemo Precious and Oyefule Abiola, are students of the departments of Forestry as well as Wildlife Management and Agricultural Economics respectively.

They were reported to have been abducted in front of their hostel on Sunday night at Olowu area of Ayetoro.

His words: “We are giving the Ogun State Government 78 hrs from this release to ensure the recovery of our kidnapped students or face a massive coalition protest in the state capital.”
