Hassan Abdullahi, Head Coach of Borno Para-Soccer Team, on Friday expressed confidence in his team’s ability to win the forthcoming National Para-Soccer Championship in Abuja.

Abdullahi told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that his team had been preparing earnestly for the championship scheduled to hold from Oct. 19 to Oct. 24.

The coach said his team was determined to go out there not just to participate but to win the trophy at the competition now in its eighth edition.

“We will see to it that we adopt every bit of skill needed to defeat all our opponents at the competition.

“My team is capable, we have done it before and we are going to do it again to ensure that we get the trophy back,” he assured.

On the financial strength needed to put his team together and also in good condition, Abdullahi said their past successes had always been through the support of their team’s patron, Haruna Adua.

“Apart from our patron, our players too have been supporting themselves through the determination to expose their hidden talents,’’ he said.

Abdullahi then appealed to other lovers of sports to encourage para-soccer players.

“These are people in our society who, in spite of their disability, are still demonstrating to the world that their situation will not be a hindrance to them,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the championship is organised to coincide with the celebrations of the World Polio Day annually, with this year’s edition billed for Oct. 24.

It is to help raise awareness about the polio disease and efforts for eradication of the virus.

The Kano state team won the seventh edition of the championship, after defeating their Katsina state opponents, thereby winning the title for the fifth time.
