Adeleke Alleges Sabotage After Newly Commissioned ₦8.52bn Osogbo Flyover Develops Structural Faults

Date:

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered immediate repairs and intensified security measures after a section of the newly commissioned ₦8.52 billion Lameco Flyover in Osogbo developed structural faults just weeks after it was inaugurated. The 672-metre flyover, commissioned on July 1, 2026, is part of the state’s ambitious ₦100 billion infrastructure development plan aimed at improving transportation across Osogbo and other major towns.

According to the state government, the affected section developed a depression following heavy rainfall, prompting engineers to temporarily close off the damaged area and begin emergency repairs. Governor Adeleke, who inspected the site alongside officials from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, alleged that the damage was the result of sabotage and vandalism by individuals seeking to undermine his administration’s development efforts.

The governor directed security agencies to strengthen surveillance around public infrastructure, identify those responsible, and ensure they are prosecuted. The incident has sparked political debate in Osun State as preparations intensify for the August 15, 2026, governorship election, with the structural failure and the allegations of sabotage becoming a major topic of public discussion.
