The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 1,059,360 voters are registered to participate in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, marking a significant increase from the approximately 900,000 voters recorded during the 2023 elections. The increase follows the successful completion of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, as preparations intensify for the June 20, 2026, governorship poll.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti during the official presentation of the updated voters’ register to political parties, INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan described the register as the foundation of free, fair, and credible elections. He warned political parties and their supporters against engaging in vote buying, vote trading, and other forms of electoral inducement, stressing that such practices remain criminal offenses under Nigeria’s Electoral Act.
INEC also revealed that security arrangements, voter education campaigns, BVAS deployment, logistics, and the distribution of sensitive election materials have been strengthened to ensure a transparent, peaceful, and credible election across Ekiti State’s 16 local government areas. Political parties were urged to focus on issue-based campaigns and uphold democratic principles throughout the election period.
