The nation’s busiest container port handled 955,907 twenty-foot-equivalent units in August, taking its June-to-August total to approximately 2.9 million TEUs.
The surge included seasonal merchandise such as Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving decorations and Christmas and Hanukkah goods arriving months earlier than usual.
Importers have been bringing products into the United States earlier in an effort to avoid new tariffs and higher transportation costs associated with the continuing Middle East conflict.

Port officials said the three-month total surpassed the previous record established during the COVID-19-era shipping boom.
