Twenty-four people have died in Ondo State after consuming a herbal liquid substance, the state government has confirmed.
The deaths occurred in Araromi Obu and Odigbo town in Odigbo Local Government Area.
Eight deaths were reported in Araromi Obu, while 16 occurred in Odigbo town.
Other people who consumed the substance have reportedly been taken to hospitals for treatment.
However, authorities have not established that the herbal substance caused the deaths.
Local officials said medical examinations and laboratory tests are needed to determine the actual cause.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday.
The deaths have prompted an investigation by authorities in the state.
