Elena Rybakina has reached the US Open semi-finals and secured the women’s world No. 1 ranking for the first time.
The Kazakh defeated China’s Zheng Qinwen in three sets.
Rybakina recovered from losing the opening set to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The result will make her the first player representing Kazakhstan to reach the top of the women’s rankings.
She will face Coco Gauff in the semi-final.
Rybakina will become the 30th woman to hold the world No. 1 ranking.
Her rise comes after she won the Australian Open earlier this year.
