Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s national team training camp ahead of the country’s Nations League match against Denmark.
Ronaldo confirmed his departure on Wednesday following a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proenca.
The 41-year-old forward said he would later explain the reasons for leaving the camp. His departure came after a turbulent period surrounding Portugal’s preparations, with reports of tension involving new head coach Jorge Jesus.
The Portuguese Football Federation acknowledged Ronaldo’s departure. The team is scheduled to continue preparations for the upcoming Nations League fixture without him.
Ronaldo remains Portugal’s most-capped player and leading goalscorer, but his immediate involvement in the current international window is now uncertain.
