Two of Hollywood’s biggest movies of 2026 are refusing to slow down.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey are continuing to dominate cinemas, with both films reaching major box-office milestones and helping make 2026 one of Hollywood’s strongest years in recent memory.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, has been particularly difficult to knock off the top spot. The Marvel blockbuster has remained No. 1 at the North American box office for six consecutive weekends, a feat only one other movie has managed this decade.
The film has now crossed $900 million domestically, reaching the milestone in just 36 days and becoming only the second movie ever to pass that mark without adjusting for inflation. Worldwide, the film has climbed to around $2.4 billion, putting it firmly among the biggest releases in modern box-office history.
But Spider-Man isn’t the only movie making noise.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon alongside a huge ensemble cast, has also turned into a global phenomenon. The film has surpassed $1.6 billion worldwide, making it Nolan’s highest-grossing movie and one of the biggest films ever released globally.
In the latest global weekend battle, The Odyssey actually reclaimed the No. 1 position, bringing in approximately $45.9 million compared with Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s $44.1 million. The difference was small, but it was enough to push Nolan’s epic back to the top.
What makes the performance even more impressive is that the two films are succeeding for very different reasons.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is benefiting from the enormous popularity of Marvel’s web-slinger and Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker, while The Odyssey is proving that an original, large-scale theatrical epic can still attract massive audiences when audiences are given a reason to experience it on the big screen.
Their success is also part of a much bigger comeback for movie theaters. Hollywood’s domestic summer box office reached roughly $4.6 billion between May and August, marking the strongest summer performance since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
For audiences, the result is simple: the box office is alive again.
And with Spider-Man: Brand New Day still chasing major records while The Odyssey continues its remarkable run, the battle between these two blockbusters is becoming one of the biggest movie stories of 2026.
